What does the 'bird in a diamond' emblem stand for on the butt stock of these guns? Under the crest on the receiver ring is a 'bird - diamond - *' from left to right. Thanks

Mine has #21 stamped inside the hand guard. 21 is the last 2 digits in my ser # but don't know if this is coincedence or what. There are no other #s that I have found on my stock.

It first was used in the mid 1930s and was used on up to the 1960s - 70s. It was not a consistent use though - some various military units and military police did not use it.
